GREAT IDEAS FOR STORYTELLERS!
Try some of these GREAT IDEAS to help you get started and get better:
- PRACTICE OUT LOUD
Tell and retell your favourite stories to anyone who will listen (including the dog!).
Stand in front of a mirror and tell yourself a story.
- TALK ABOUT STORIES
Talk about your favourite stories to friends, family, and teachers.
Tell them exactly why you like certain stories. Ask questions and encourage
others to ask you questions. Story talk!
- STORY DRAMA
Get classmates or family together and turn a story into a short play.
Try role-playing and make up the spoken lines as you go along.
Change the story, if you like! Turn the story into a puppet play
to perform at your next family gathering!
- READ ALOUD
Read aloud every day. For a change, you might read a
bedtime story to mom or dad. Better yet, share the reading.
Read aloud to your best friend, or brothers and sisters too.
- USE PROPS
Collect souvenirs from a trip or objects you've found and saved.
Show them as you tell about your experiences. Make up a make-believe
story about some of these collectibles.
- FAMILY TALES
Ask grandma or grandpa to tell you about their lives. Maybe
they've got some great stories about their childhoods. Ask, listen,
write down the words, retell.
- STORYTELLING CHAIR
Find one special chair and name it the storytelling chair.
Class or family storytellers must sit in this chair whenever
a story is told. (You'll be surprised how much easier it is to tell a story when
sitting in this magical chair. Try it)!
